Principal’s Report
School Association
I would like to thank all the community members who have agreed to be part of our School Association in 2024. Thank you to our new office bearers – our new School Association Chair is Claire Prior, Vice Chair Sarah Bennett, Secretary Christine Hawes, and treasurer Kate Craddock. Our School Association is a vital link between you, our community, and our school, and the primary driver of fundraising for our school. If you are interested in participating in any School Association meetings, you are welcome to come along as an unappointed member. We would love to see you too!
Respect in, and of, our school
I would also like to take this opportunity to talk about one of our key Snug CARES values – Respect – and what this means for us as a school. We work hard to create a safe and inclusive environment. When we respect ourselves, each other, and our surroundings, we create a nurturing atmosphere where everyone, especially our Snug students, can thrive.
Respecting our school begins with valuing ourselves as individuals. Each student and staff member brings unique strengths, perspectives, and experiences to our community. By recognizing and appreciating these differences, we cultivate an atmosphere of acceptance and celebration of diversity. Let us embrace our individuality and encourage others to do the same.
Furthermore, respect extends to our interactions with one another. Whether in the classroom, on the playground, or in our exchanges with one another, it is crucial to treat each other with kindness, empathy, and consideration. We must listen actively, communicate respectfully, and resolve conflicts peacefully. By practicing empathy and understanding, we build meaningful connections and ultimately, make Snug Primary School a place that lives its Snug CARES approach.
Respecting our school also means taking care of our physical environment. Our school facilities are shared spaces that belong to all of us – and we welcome our community in. As a community, it is our responsibility to keep them clean, tidy, and safe. Unfortunately, we currently have a group of community members (young adults/youths) who are using our school grounds disrespectfully – typically, they are coming late at night, from midnight to 2pm, and are engaging in behaviours that are not appropriate for our school setting. Can I ask that if you see any behaviours in our school that are of concern, please don’t hesitate to contact Kingston police, and certainly let us know too. We want to ensure that our school is a safe and welcoming place for all.
Thank you to all of you who do look after our community and each other.
Kind regards
Kath’s Spot
Well, holidays are on us again and my mind goes back to when my boys where all little and I used to get so exited for school holidays and all the things we could do together. We often used to have a bit of a family meeting over dinner one night, either just before holidays started or when they started, and we would have a chat about what we were hoping to achieve as a “Dolliver Team” together.
The kids would get super excited and we would get whiteboards out and make lists of great ideas of things we could make and build, and places we could go and see. We would list people each of us would like to meet or invite over, and we would work out what special time would be just “our family” time.
Each holidays we would generally set up an additional table up in the dining space, and we would bring out the lego tubs to live underneath, and during the holidays our family would create an ongoing project over the whole holidays. Generally a city, or town, with buildings, parks, houses, schools, shops and the like. Each day different family members and guests would potter away at the table and add their creativity to the table. At the end of the holidays, we would take a photo and then it all would get packed away into tubs. It was like our own community event that was kind of ongoing, that created wonderful discussions and was a great tool for a bit of ‘quiet time’ too.
I wonder what school holidays look like for you? One of my great friends each holidays heads to East of Africa to visit her store over there, that she supports a group of Mammas by running, and her kids have a wonderful adventure with their grandparents at the same time! Each family runs differently, and we all have unique experiences, just as our children will all remember different experiences of their holidays too. I always wonder what my boys will remember of their holidays? I imagine, it wont be the stuff that cost lots of money, rather the time that was spent with them or with others…..I wonder hey!

Qkr at Snug!
The Qkr online payment option is an option at Snug for Prep to Year 6 weekly lunch provisions.
Cash will continue to be accepted and paper order forms will still be sent home on Tuesday afternoons with students to be returned with cash (if this is your preference) by the end of the day on Thursday.
EdSmart Communication System
Our School will be receiving a new messaging platform for communicating with you. This will ‘go live’ for Snug Primary School during April/May.
The new platform, called EdSmart is an Australian platform which is designed to improve communication in school communities by allowing electronic messaging i.e. SMS and emails. For now, it will be used to manage absences messages i.e. you will receive a SMS or email alert if your child is absent from school requesting a response. It will also allow us to send a communication message to all parent/guardians.
The platform will, over time, be rolled out across all Tasmanian Government Schools and new features will be added.
You will receive a text message and/or an email with further details. Note, the text message sender will be a shortened version of our school’s name - Please keep an eye out for it!
