Principal’s Report
Dear Parents, Families and School Community,
Well another week has come to an end, and the promise of an easter break! Please enjoy your extra long weekend, with students back on Wednesday 3rd April – then a small run until the end of term on Friday 12th April.
Primary Progress Reports
This snapshot of how your child is settling in to school will come home on Friday 5th April. Keep an eye out. Please touch base with your child’s teacher should you have anything you wish to discuss.
Reading
I know this has been a bit of a constant in my newsletters, but I once again want to highlight the importance of building a reading culture at home to support your child(ren). I know it hard to keep your children off devices, (and of course, we understand there may be a time for that). But it is critical to a child’s development that you support them to read every day. Reading is not just a fundamental skill; it is the cornerstone of academic success and personal growth. When children read regularly at home, they not only improve their literacy skills but also expand their vocabulary, enhance their comprehension abilities, and develop a deeper understanding of the world around them. Furthermore, reading at home nurtures imagination, creativity, and critical thinking skills—all of which are essential for success in school and beyond.
You can help your child to read at home by leading by example – if you read, and you set aside time, they will be more likely to read too! Make your home space suited to reading – comfy bean bags, a quiet space, plenty of fun books to end (even if they come from the Snug School library!).
Try and make reading a routine – do it at the same time, every day. Integrate reading to your child, then giving them time to read independently too.
We are in this together, and want to work with you to support the reading development of your child. If you have any questions, touch base with your child’s teacher, or call Miss Woolley or myself – we will support you too!
Kind regards
Kath’s Spot
As you all know I am an avid supporter of the Jack Jumpers, and I was so excited to be present at the third grand final championship series match in Melbourne on the weekend when Jack McVeigh hit the 3-pointer enabling the team to win the game by 2 points. Although most of the stadium was filled with Melbourne United supporters, at the time, the 500 or so Jack Jumper fans erupted in volume, ecstatic with the result. Now tonight the team will play to try win their third game of the series to take out the championship.
Throughout the week, NBL CEO David Stevenson said “I don’t think there’s any doubt at all that the Tasmania Jack Jumpers are the most successful expansion club, in any sport, in Australia’s history”. The Tasmanian team I think is really well supported both by Tasmanian’s and those around the country, because both the team and their support crew have worked really hard for it, despite difficulties, injuries and the hiccups that have come across along their way. Tasmanians are proud of their progress, and have jumped on their bandwagon in support.
Our students here at Snug Primary have been working on the Habit of the Mind of Excellence, particularly focusing on being proud of the progress we make because we have worked hard for it. I have fortunately had the joy of heading in and out of classes across the grades, and I can see the mighty efforts that our students have put in and the leaps in progress that they are making as a result. We want to take the time to appreciate and celebrate these efforts of excellence, and the difference that it makes to each students learning.
As students continue to learn, let’s not forget – particularly when it gets busy - to stop and celebrate the wins and be proud of the achievements along the way. Working hard takes effort, but the reward is seen in the progress made, and we are so proud of each student!!
Well done to every student for pushing through the hard moments… and go the Jackies!!

EdSmart Communication System
Our School will be receiving a new messaging platform for communicating with you. This will ‘go live’ for Snug Primary School during April/May.
The new platform, called EdSmart is an Australian platform which is designed to improve communication in school communities by allowing electronic messaging i.e. SMS and emails. For now, it will be used to manage absences messages i.e. you will receive a SMS or email alert if your child is absent from school requesting a response. It will also allow us to send a communication message to all parent/guardians.
The platform will, over time, be rolled out across all Tasmanian Government Schools and new features will be added.
You will receive a text message and/or an email with further details. Note, the text message sender will be a shortened version of our school’s name - Please keep an eye out for it!
