Principal’s Report
Hi Parents, Families and Community
NAPLAN: Our Years 3 and 5 students are in the midst of their NAPLAN testing, with the testing due to end next week. NAPLAN is an opportunity to gage student progress, and importantly, see how we are tracking as a school.
Drop off, pick up: Just a reminder to everyone about being courteous to each other at pick up and drop off. Please ensure that your child exits the car on the right (which is the left!) side, so they do not step out into the cars passing by. Please do not park in the turning circle AT ALL – no exceptions. This ends up creating congestion, and adds to the risk for our students. If you do need to park, please do so in the car park, or along the road side in a suitable spot. Please also drive into the school at an appropriate (slow) speed. Thank you for keeping everyone safe.
School Association AGM: If you would like to support our school, please consider being part of our School Association. Our AGM is on Tuesday at 7pm. We would love to see new members come and participate in the parent body that works alongside our school.
Harmony Day: We have a whole school Harmony Day picnic next Friday, March 22 . This will take place at 12.30 in front of the gym. Lunch will run until 1pm.
The theme of this year’s Harmony Day event is “Everyone Belongs”. We are focusing on what our similarities are, how we are alike, and felt a school lunch was a lovely way to be together.
This will be a free dress day, and students will be able to dress in a way that is important to them. This may include traditional dress, or the colour orange, if that is important to them – or they can dress in a completely different way that is important to them – maybe being a soccer player is a core part of how they see themselves, so they can come in their strip; maybe art is central to their being, so they come dressed in an art smock.
Kind regards
Kath’s Spot
Most of the students here are aware that I am a big Jack Jumpers fan (Tassie NBL Basketball) and, as a team, the Jack Jumpers have been working hard to make it into the grand final championship series. Along the way, there has been a few games where the strong supportive crowd of the Jack Jumpers had been very vile towards some of the opposing players. A few times there was booing, and I might have heard people in the crowd getting a bit worked up and it came out slightly sideways sometimes - what is usually a very vocal happy crowd was a little bit techy at time!
Often when we are tired, frustrated or overwhelmed, things can come out a different way to what we intended. Unfortunately for the person we are interacting with at the time, it is not their problem that we are feeling this way, however often they are the ones that may receive the attitude or abrupt responses from us. It is really good for us to be aware of this, and to be able to own our responses and apologise.
This week our students have been learning about the Habit of the Mind of Respect with the key thinking around the fact that we are thoughtful about how we speak to, and about, each other. Not only have they been reflecting on how we speak to each other, it’s imporant when we interact with others for us to watch how we talk about others also. It can be so easy to get caught up in conversations or find yourself chatting about stuff you wish later you hadn’t said. I know it can be hard, but it shows respect when we hold to the value of speaking about others respectfully.
While the Jack Jumpers board had released a statement reminding their members and supporters about the positive culture and values that they set as part of ‘Defending the Island’, sometimes we all need a little reminder every now and then to hold to our values! Let’s help each other speak respectfully to, and about, each other.
Many Blessings - and Go the Jackies!

School Association
Would you like to help make a difference to Snug Primary? Do you have business, bookkeeping or fundraising skills that could benefit the school? The School Association needs you!
The School Association assists in raising funds to contribute to activities and items which enrich our children’s education and learning environment. We also contribute to policy development and review, raise any parent/carer concerns and act as a conduit between teachers, students, parents/carers and the community.
This coming Tuesday, 19th March we are holding our Annual General Meeting in the Staff room in the front office. Everyone is welcome to attend.
At the AGM, all Executive positions will be declared vacant and taken to a vote if there is more than one nomination.
Let’s make Snug Primary the best it can be. Please come along to the AGM at 7pm on Tuesday night and find out how you can contribute.
Qkr at Snug!
We are now able to offer the Qkr online payment option at Snug.
To start with, this will be available for the Prep to Year 6 weekly lunch provisions only.
Cash will continue to be accepted and paper order forms will still be sent home on Tuesday afternoons with students to be returned with cash (if this is your preference) by the end of the day on Thursday.
Please note, the Android Phone issue has now been resolved, parents/users can now download the App from the Google Play Store.

EdSmart Communication System
Our School will be receiving a new messaging platform for communicating with you. This will ‘go live’ for Snug Primary School at the beginning of April.
The new platform, called EdSmart is an Australian platform which is designed to improve communication in school communities by allowing electronic messaging i.e. SMS and emails. For now, it will be used to manage absences messages i.e. you will receive a SMS or email alert if your child is absent from school requesting a response. It will also allow us to send a communication message to all parent/guardians.
The platform will, over time, be rolled out across all Tasmanian Government Schools and new features will be added.
You will receive a text message and/or an email with further details. Note, the text message sender will be a shortened version of our school’s name - Please keep an eye out for it!
