Principal’s Report
Hi Parents, Families and Community,
Eat Meet and Greet
It was fantastic to see so many of you at school on Tuesday for our Eat, Meet and Greet. I know our staff welcomed the opportunity to connect with you, and have an informal chat early in the year. If you were unable to make it, and would like to connect with your child’s classroom teacher, please contact them to make a time.
School photos
A reminder that we have our school photos next Thursday, March 7. Please ensure your child comes in full school uniform on that day. Please contact the office if there are any uniform items you need to purchase. Please see below for further information about ordering online.
Reading
As many of you are aware, the Department of Education, Children and Young People is implementing a new strategy to support schools to teach Reading this year – it is called a Multi-Tiered System of Support. We are developing our knowledge of this approach, and will share it with you ASAP. As we do this though, can I encourage you to promote reading with your child(ren) as an essential cornerstone of their learning. Find as much time as you can to read to, and with, your child.
NAPLAN
Year 3 and 5 students will be completing NAPLAN testing from week 6. This is an opportunity to measure our school’s progress, and identify what we are doing well, and identify our next steps.
School Association
Volunteer Safeguarding
As part of the Department of Education and Young People’s drive to keep all students safe, school volunteers are now required to complete an online safeguarding module. We do value our volunteers at Snug, and so want to support any of you who wish to volunteer, but may be unsure of how to complete the module. Use the link below to complete the training (it takes about half a; or, come in to school, and we can set you up on a computer with the module ready to go! Once completed, please email your certificate to snug.primary@decyp.tas.gov.au
Kind regards
Kath’s Spot
Are you one that really ponders on things or words that you say and do? I know I am… to the point where it’s probably a little bit unhealthy, where sometimes I need to learn to let go and move on.
But it does mean that I have learnt over the years to process what I have done throughout the day and I try to make amends for words I have said that may have been unhelpful or hurtful in any way. My Mum used to always say to never let the sun go down before you have said sorry or made amends, and I always know I’ll sleep better if I deal with something straight away. Is this true for you too?
Our students this week have been learning about respect and focusing on thinking carefully about how we talk about, and to, each other. We all know as we try to do this, that we may make mistakes (that’s life!) but it’s what we do with those mistakes that will show our character and what we are made of.
We all want to strive to be the best that we have been created to be. Let’s work hard to show respect for others in the way we talk to them and the way we treat them in our day to day.
Many Blessings

School Photo Day – Thursday 7 March
Our school photos this year will be with ‘Leading Image School Photos’. This provider comes highly recommended and we’re looking forward to a quick and easy, exclusively online, ordering process for our families with high quality photo results at the end so you well and truly get what you pay for! Please note:
- Cut-off for Family Photos is at 4:30pm the night before Photo Day (Wednesday, Mar 6) . Any Family Photos that have not been ordered before the cut-off will not be taken. Unfortunately, Leading Image cannot make any exceptions on the day.
- All students will have an individual photo taken on Photo Day regardless of whether they have ordered or not. Individual student ordering will stay open after Photo Day however orders placed after the bulk of orders has been printed will be sent directly to parents and will incur a postage charge per order.
- Please don’t hesitate to reach out to the school office on snug.primary@decyp.tas.gov.au or 6267 9230 if you have questions at any stage. And thanks, in advance, for your patience as we navigate this new (but hopefully improved!) system for our Snug students and their families.
Qkr at Snug!
We are now able to offer the Qkr online payment option at Snug.
To start with, this will be available for the Prep to Year 6 weekly lunch provisions only.
Cash will continue to be accepted and paper order forms will still be sent home on Tuesday afternoons with students to be returned with cash (if this is your preference) by the end of the day on Thursday.
Unfortunately, there is an issue with new Android phones which has been identified and is being addressed by the Qkr tech team. At present users are unable to download the Qkr app however can still access it via desktop, laptop, tablet or other device.

EdSmart Communication System
Our School will be receiving a new messaging platform for communicating with you. This will ‘go live’ for Snug Primary School at the beginning of April.
The new platform, called EdSmart is an Australian platform which is designed to improve communication in school communities by allowing electronic messaging i.e. SMS and emails. For now, it will be used to manage absences messages i.e. you will receive a SMS or email alert if your child is absent from school requesting a response. It will also allow us to send a communication message to all parent/guardians.
The platform will, over time, be rolled out across all Tasmanian Government Schools and new features will be added.
You will receive a text message and/or an email with further details. Note, the text message sender will be a shortened version of our school’s name - Please keep an eye out for it!
Further information is available on the Department’s website
