Principal’s Report
Hi Parents, Families and Community,
Settling in: Well the end of our first full week has come, and what a brilliant start to the year it has been! Our students have been settled, focused, our teachers well prepared – there has been a lovely tone around the school. It has been great to catch up with you all too after your holidays.
Eat, Meet and Greet: We are running our school’s Term 1 Eat Meet and Greet event for 2023 on Tuesday, February 27, from 4pm until 6.30pm. Kinders will be available from 3pm. Please keep an eye out on Seesaw and Facebook in coming days for specific times when your child’s classroom teacher will be available. This is a great opportunity for you to meet our new teachers, and other families. Class teachers will be available to answer any questions or queries you may have about the 2023 year. Please note that this is an informal session and not a specific parent teacher meeting. Should you require time to talk to your child’s teacher individually, please make an appointment for another mutually agreeable time. There will be a barbecue on the night – gold coin for a snag and bread.
First Assembly: Our first official school assembly will take place on Friday, March 1. We are doing things slightly different this year – assemblies will be run by select Year 6 students, with each assembly featuring one “class in focus”. Hopefully, this will allow you, parents, families and community, to be able to visit the special assembly that is featuring your child. Our first class in focus on March 1 will be 56C. Please note that we will be still be handing out junior and senior school awards at each assembly.
Volunteer Safeguarding: As part of the Department of Education and Young People’s drive to keep all students safe, school volunteers are now required to complete an online safeguarding module. We do value our volunteers at Snug, and so want to support any of you who wish to volunteer, but may be unsure of how to complete the module. Use the link below to complete the training (it takes about half a; or, come in to school, and we can set you up on a computer with the module ready to go! Once completed, please email your certificate to snug.primary@decyp.tas.gov.au
Years 3-6 Swimming Carnival: Next Tuesday, February 20, is our Year 3-6 Swimming Carnival. We encourage all students to attend, even those who may be reluctant swimmers. There are a raft of different races and activities, including novelty races, those with kick boards etc. Can students please bring sunscreen, sun safe hat, bathers, towel, a coat, rashie vest, big recess and lunch, water. Students can wear a wetsuit of they choose. Please note there will be sweets on sale at the event. We rarely sell these at school events, so this is a bit of a special occasion. Sales will be limited per student.
Kind regards
Mr Curtis
Kath’s Spot
Welcome back to 2024! What a wonderful start to the year, with lots of smiling faces, cheery “Good Mornings!” and lots of running around. It’s so lovely to see the sun out and the opportunity to get outside I think has been appreciated by everyone. Even our Outdoor Learning Area has grown and is looking wonderful, with the tunnel almost all covered with beautiful natives.
For those who don’t know me, I am the Snug Primary Chaplain and this year I am here both Wednesdays and Fridays, and I am a part of the Launch into Learning team. As part of my role, I help to support both students, families, staff and the wider community. So if you ever need a chat, or have a concern, or need any support in any way, feel free to yell out, grab me when I am on bus duty, of you can leave a message at the office and I’ll get back to you. I can also support with networking for food hampers and any additional support needed.
Our students have been looking out how they care for each other, and one way we can do this, is to keep in touch with how everyone is going, and help support when needing an extra boost. I am fortunate that that’s what my role is all about, and I get the joy of being a part of my local community in this way.
Please say hello and introduce yourself if we haven’t met already, and all our familiar faces, please also chat and connect as you are coasting by.
Many Blessings
School Photo Day – Thursday 7 March
Our school photos this year will be with ‘Leading Image School Photos’. This provider comes highly recommended and we’re looking forward to a quick and easy, exclusively online, ordering process for our families with high quality photo results at the end so you well and truly get what you pay for! Please note:
- Cut-off for Family Photos is at 4:30pm the night before Photo Day (Wednesday, Mar 6) . Any Family Photos that have not been ordered before the cut-off will not be taken. Unfortunately, Leading Image cannot make any exceptions on the day.
- All students will have an individual photo taken on Photo Day regardless of whether they have ordered or not. Individual student ordering will stay open after Photo Day however orders placed after the bulk of orders has been printed will be sent directly to parents and will incur a postage charge per order.
- Please don’t hesitate to reach out to the school office on snug.primary@decyp.tas.gov.au or 6267 9230 if you have questions at any stage. And thanks, in advance, for your patience as we navigate this new (but hopefully improved!) system for our Snug students and their families.

EdSmart Communication System
Our School will be receiving a new messaging platform for communicating with you. This will ‘go live’ for Snug Primary School at the beginning of April.
The new platform, called EdSmart is an Australian platform which is designed to improve communication in school communities by allowing electronic messaging i.e. SMS and emails. For now, it will be used to manage absences messages i.e. you will receive a SMS or email alert if your child is absent from school requesting a response. It will also allow us to send a communication message to all parent/guardians.
The platform will, over time, be rolled out across all Tasmanian Government Schools and new features will be added.
You will receive a text message and/or an email with further details. Note, the text message sender will be a shortened version of our school’s name - Please keep an eye out for it!
