Principal’s Report
Hi Parents, Families, Caregivers and Community,
Athletics Day
It was wonderful to see so many families enjoy the lovely weather and great spirit shown at the Athletics Day last week. A big thanks to Mr Lodge for organising the event. Our top achieving athletes going on to compete in the Huon and Channel competition.
Colour Fun Run
Next Friday is our colour fun run. It is going to be a fantastic afternoon – should be a blast. It will be a free dress day – please bring a change of clothes too! For those who have purchased the fun run pack, that will be distributed to you prior to the event. The kinders will kick off the event at lunch time, with the other year levels staggered. Times tba.
Snug Jingles
Make sure you lock in the date for our annual Snug Jingles community event on Sunday, Dec 3. There will be food and music on site – a lovely way to meet together to enjoy the end of the year.
High School Orientation
For our Year 6 students, high school orientation is happening over coming weeks. This si a chance for our students to familiarise themselves with their 2024 schools, meet key staff members, and create that excitement as they head into the holidays.
PAT Testing
Our students have just completed our annual PAT (Progressive Achievement Test) testing. This testing provides us an opportunity to identify student growth, and informs our decisions on what we need to do to improve the learning outcomes of our students. It is important and critical work, and we appreciate the effort our students put into the process. We have had excellent results this year, with some of our best achievement results in some time. Well done to our teachers and TA’s.
Growing Up Program
The Growing Up Program (GUP) brought to us by Family Planning Tasmania will be visiting Snug Primary School from Monday, November 20th through Friday, November 24th. You will all be sent information in coming days about this important program, which teachers young people age appropriate information which aims to maximise learning outcomes in the areas of relationships, sexuality, and protective behaviours. In addition, the program also aims to increase positive communication between families and their young people around these topics.
Kind regards,
Kath’s Spot
During the week we had a big thunderstorm here in Snug, just after school. The rain came bucketing down, the thunder was rumbling and the lightening was crashing. Earlier that morning the Rideo crew, who coordinate our after school mountain bike sessions, had been in touch to say they were making the call early to cancel the program, due to bad weather. All day, as the sun shone brightly and as the heat got warmer and warmer and as people started talking about trips to the beach after school, I wondered if this supposed ‘bad weather’ was actually going to come our way. Sure enough as 2:30pm rolled around so did the storm clouds, and ten minutes later the little drips started sprinkling across our playground.
Have you ever had days, or moments across your life when you have just not been able to know what has been coming next? I imagine there has been multiple moments when you have thought this is the case. When I was younger I used to think, “if only I could know what was going to happen each day so I could plan ahead”…. Now I realise, if I did know, I would probably be really stressed out all the time! Which would probably not be helpful for me or others. Now I figure let's just take it one day at a time, and see what today brings.
In the world of today with so many anxieties about everything, our little people don’t really need any more stress than what they already have. So, as I attempt to juggle my way through this parenting gig, I’m trying to encourage my boys just to live today to their best. To try their best, put in all their effort. We talk in our Habit of the mind of “Excellence: We use our strategies to do our best”. That’s what we want our students to do - to put in every effort to do their best. As parents we can forward plan for them, but in the moment, we need to make sure we enjoy being in the moment; that we stop and have that chat, that we sit and listen as they share about their day. If we think about it, are these not some of our favourite moments?
Many Blessings,
Volunteers Celebration
Volunteers are such an important part of our Snug Primary Community and we are incredibly grateful for the contributions made by over 100 volunteers this year across our school including; in classrooms, on excursions and at special events. To say THANK YOU this year we are holding a special Volunteer Celebration on Wednesday 15 November.
Personal invitations were sent out (home) last week to all our volunteers, however as we used student "couriers" to help deliver these invitations we know that some may have taken the scenic route, been delayed or lost in transportation. So please know that if you have volunteered this year, even in the smallest of ways, you are invited and we hope you can join us at some point during the afternoon.
RSVPs to the office are appreciated where possible for catering, dietary and seating arrangements - 6267 9230 or snug.primary@decyp.tas.gov.au
